Parrot Care

If you have wanted to have a parrot for a pet you will find them to be lively, energetic and delightful pets. Each parrot species has distinctive personality traits and some research to decide which parrot species you would prefer is advised. This is an important choice before you decide on visiting a parrot breeder.

Parrots are flock animals, living in huge communities in their natural habitat, sometimes gathering in groups of more than one hundred at a time. A parrots diet consists of a varied diet of berries, nuts, flowers, fruit, seeds and grasses. In a home environment they need lots of interaction with their surrogate human families. Parrots tend to bond with one perceived mate and will often focus all their attention on one person.

It is the parrot that decides who to bond with and if they choose someone other than their owner, say another member of the household, there is little to be done to change the parrots mind. They are extremely intelligent, equivalent to the mind of a four year old child and they thrive on the love and attention of their adoptive family.
Choosing the kind of cage you will need for your pet parrot needs to be done according to the measurement of his wingspan. He needs to be able to stretch out his wings completely and not be able to touch the tips of his wings on the cage bars.

Daily cleaning is a large part of  parrot care. You must make sure to change the paper in his cage every single day for health reasons. These health reasons not only apply to him, but to you as well. Do not let your parrot sit over his urine and feces inside a cage for long periods of time. Take the time to wash his cage lightly in a disinfectant once a month also. Always make sure to rinse it well before putting him back in.
